The Handbook of the Mammals of Paraguay project is a free, online, downloadable Handbook produced by FAUNA Paraguay. Complete handbook accounts for Volume 2: Xenarthra are now available online at Each handbook account provides a thorough review of the published literature for each of the species occurring in Paraguay - 2 species of Myrmecophagidae and 12 species of Dasypodidae - and is updated regularly as new material becomes available.

The pink fairy armadillo is today's species of the day!

The pink fairy armadillo (Chlamyphorus truncatus) has been featured today in IUCN's Species of the Day program. This smallest of all armadillos is currently classified as Data Deficient due to the lack of basic information on its distribution, population status, and the threats its wild populations are facing.
